My Summer Favorites: SRC, Extra Playtime, & Sweet Treats

**Disclosure: As a brand ambassador for Central Arkansas McDonald’s I am being compensated for this post. However, all opinions are 100% mine.**

I Love Summer!!! I love it that our days are more relaxed since there is no school. I love it that the days are longer. I love the feel of the sun shining on my face. There are so many things to love about summer. But three of my most favorite things about summer are Summer Reading Club at the library, lots of playtime, and cold sweet treats on hot days.

My family really loves the library and we spend a lot of time at the library during the summer. Each year we look forward to signing up for Summer Reading Club at the library because there are lots of fun free events to attend all during the summer. This year Summer Reading Club kicked off with the annual tye-dye party. My kids and I always look forward to tye-dying shirts at this annual party and this year was no different. We had a great time dying our shirts.

Banding our shirts before we dye them.
The fun part. Dying our shirts. 🙂

We also look forward to the programs presented by the local museums during Summer Reading Club at the library. And the magic shows are always a lot of fun. For the past two summers, we have really enjoyed seeing Ronald McDonald’s magic show at the library.  And we can’t wait to see him this year as well.

Luckily for kids all around Central Arkansas, Ronald McDonald will be performing his magic show at several libraries this June.

  • 6/20 Conway Library 10 am to 11 am
  • 6/20 Mayflower Library 1 pm to 2pm
  • 6/21 Laman Library (North Little Rock) 10:30 am to 11:30 am
  • 6/28 Thompson Library (Little Rock) 10 am to 11 am & 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm

My family also loves all of the extra playtime that we have during the summer. Since we don’t homeschool during the summer our days are pretty much free for lots of playtime. Lately, I’ve been taking my kids out to the park early to let them ride their bikes & play before it gets too hot outside. Although we try to go out early after about an hour of outside play we are all hot and in need of something to cool us down.

Which brings me to another one of my favorite things about summer. Cold Sweet Treats!!!! Because there is nothing better than cooling down by eating or drinking something cold on a hot summer day. And I’m not the only one in my family who loves summer treats, we all do. So going out to enjoy summer treats is something that we like to do during the summer. Lucky for us, McDonald’s has a great variety of summer treats which means that we can all find a treat on the menu that we like.

We were just at McDonald’s last week. While the kids and I were out running some errands we decided to stop by McDonald’s for a sweet treat snack break and some playtime. With ice cream cones, ice cream sundaes, milkshakes, McFlurries, and slushies on the menu McDonald’s has plenty of cold sweet treats to choose from. While the new Rolo McFlurry looked pretty tempting, I ordered the Cherry Limeade Slushie for my treat (I was thirsty and for some reason eating ice cream just makes me more thirsty). I’m glad that I opted for the slushie it was delicious and it quenched my thirst.

My daughter chose an ice cream cone. I was surprised that the regular ice cream cones are just 49 cents each. That’s a great deal.

And my son decided he didn’t want anything cold at all. Luckily, McDonald’s has pies and cookies also available on the menu. My son decided to order one of his favorite treats, chocolate chip cookies.

After eating their snacks my kids played for a bit in the PlayPlace. Before we left so we could finish up our errands.

What are some of your favorite things about summer?

The shirts turned out really great and looking and the pictures your kids have really grown. I am enjoying the summer weather as well and have been spending more time outside.

My kiddos have grown so much. They are both getting taller. Especially, my daughter, she is already outgrowing her size 5 jeans. Guess I’ll be making more shorts. 🙂

The Summer Reading Club sounds like a lot of fun Sonya. I spent the majority of my childhood summers reading in the grass and I’m so happy I did. I haven’t tye dyed shirts since high school, maybe I’ll do a fun Crafty Friday tie-dye tutorial. I love the weather, I love being able to go outside without a jacket on, I feel free 🙂

That would be a really fun Crafty-Friday tutorial. Before we started attending the annual tie-dye party I thought it was hard to do. But it’s really easy. 🙂
