Before, I started sewing I had gotten into a rut of wearing t-shirts and jeans all summer long. Now I still wear my jeans most of the summer, but I’ve been trying to sew a variety of shirts so I can get out of my t-shirt rut. When I saw the Simplicity 8644 pattern a few months ago I knew that I wanted to make to make a few of the different views available in this pattern.

I decided to start with option D (like the green illustration above). I choose a coral eyelet fabric that I found at Jo-Ann. This was my first time sewing with an eyelet fabric. It wasn’t much different than sewing with a regular woven fabric. It was a little hard to tell the wrong side of the fabric from the right side of the fabric. So I always had to look that the decorative stitching on the fabric to determine which was the right side.
I liked sewing this shirt. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. It was a pretty easy sew and I think even beginners could easily make it.
This shirt is a wrap top, but it does have buttons on the inside of the shirt to help keep the shirt closed. So you don’t have to solely rely on the ties to close this shirt. However, I just used the ties to close my wrap shirt in these pictures. I sewed the buttons onto my shirt, but I need to move the placement of my button holes to give my shirt a better fit. So until I do that, I’ll just rely on the ties to keep my shirt closed.
I will definitely be making another view from Simplicity 8644. I’m hoping that I have enough time to make view C before summer ends. However, I have a few other sewing projects lined up already. So I’ll see if I can get to it while it’s still hot outside.
