Gratitude & Thanks: Prince Rogers Nelson, Earth Day, & More

grat & thanks

I’m so thankful for the music that Prince made. I was speechless Β when I saw that Prince had passed away. Being born in the early 80’s it seems like there has always been music by Prince in my life. Plus, I can’t tell you how many times I watched Purple Rain as a kid on Saturdays. It seems like it was always on our local Fox station on the weekends so I would always watch it when it was on.

Gratitude & Thanks
My dad’s Controversy record that was released the year I was born

I’m thankful that I had the opportunity to see Prince in concert in 2004. My husband and I drove from Little Rock to Memphis for the Musicology Tour that was held at the Pyramid. That was the best concert I’ve ever been to in my life. To me, Prince was the greatest entertainer ever.

Gratitude & Thanks

I’m thankful that my kids like me playing Mario with them even though I’m not a good player. I mostly just stay in a bubble (it’s a cool feature that they have on the newer Mario games for bad players like me). My four-year-old is better than I am πŸ™‚

I’m thankful for $1 sewing patterns. Joann had a sale on patterns and I bought some vintage dress patterns from the 1950’s for my daughter and me.

Gratitude & Thanks

I’m thankful for cheap flowers. We planted some flowers that were 10 for $10 at Kroger in some planters on our front porch.

Gratitude & Thanks

I’m thankful that my kids and I had a great time planting our flowers on Earth Day.

I’m thankful that I took time to lay on a blanket outside with my kiddos looking up at the sky and saying what the clouds looked like to us. I need to take more time to do this with my kids it was a lot of fun.

I’m thankful for Mo Williams books. We read a new Elephant and Piggie book last night that had us all laughing.

I’m thankful that my kids get to discover new things that bring them joy.

I’m thankful that my son is interested in finding good deals. For the past few months every Sunday he is excited about looking at the ads. He looks to see what items are on sale that we usually buy. Then he will look for coupons for those items too πŸ™‚ He especially loves finding Dawn on sale for 88Β’ or 99Β’ . Then using a coupon to purchase it because he can get it for less than a dollar. My child is so sweet that he spends his allowance that he earns by folding laundry to buy me dishing washing liquid.

I’m thankful that my four-year-old is becoming a good little reader. I have slowly been teaching her how to read. We have been working on short A words since this fall using the Hooked on Phonics and she is doing awesome reading short stories with short A words. I’m really proud of her.

I’m thankful that my husband and I were invited to attend the 2016 Curbside Couture fashion show at the Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock on Sunday. I’ll write a post about it next week but it was an incredible show and we had a great time.

What’s your favorite Prince song? Also, what are you thankful for this week?

I cannot believe Prince is gone. I didn’t realize how emotional I would be, but then I heard the Harlem Gospel Choir sing Purple Rain on GMA and I lost it. I was in full ugly cry mode. I was emotional on Thursday too, but Friday I guess it was finally settling in that it was indeed the truth, he is gone.

I love that your son is a deal seeker! My girls are the same way. πŸ™‚
I hope you’ll share your sewing with us. I truly admire that you can sew your own clothes, I would love to do that.

Hey Dean, I know exactly how you feel. When I first saw that Prince had passed I was really surprised by how sad I felt. I remember when Michael Jackson died and people were so sad and I didn’t get it until Prince died then I felt the sad way. Even though I didn’t personally know him his music has made a huge impact on my life. His music has always been in my life. His version of “Betcha By Golly Wow” is my husband and I’s song. But I’m thankful for my Prince CD’s and records πŸ™‚ His music will always be around.

I love having a little deal seeker. He makes me proud πŸ™‚

I will certainly be sharing my sewing projects on here. Hopefully, I can share a post this week about a really easy dress that I made for my daughter.

I’ve not gotten a chance to see Prince in concert. I’m thankful that you did. He was indeed a great entertainer.

His concert was the best. I wish you had gotten a chance to see him.

I’m good at old school Mario games, but the ones today nearly give me motion sickness.

Mo Willems lives near here and is often at events for kids! Come visit!

As for Prince, as a fellow 80’s baby, it’s crushing. I never saw him live but Cassidy did and said it was one of the best concert experiences of his life. And he’s toured with the Dead and Phish and The Who so that’s a big deal for him to say.

The new Mario games move so fast and there is so much color too. I understand why you get motion sickness.
My kids would love to go to a Mo Willems event πŸ™‚ I wish we lived closer.

I’m pretty sad that The Artist is no longer with us πŸ™ but I am so thankful that I was able to experience his music while he was here on earth. I am also thankful for cheap flowers because I was able to fill in some areas where my flowers had died and I am really enjoying watching them bloom already.
