Gratitude & Thanks: Movie Dates, MLK Day, & More

I’m thankful that my family had a good Christmas. My kiddos got just about everything on their list plus a few surprises. But besides the gifts, Christmas is always a cheerful time because we get to take a break from our usual schedule.  So there is more time to relax and enjoy one another.

I’m thankful that my son won a turkey from the library.  They were hosting a giveaway that you could get an entry by checking out 10 items. So every time we went during the giveaway period he checked out 10 items so he could get an entry to win the turkey.  And it paid off because he won it. He was so excited when he won and was excited to cook it. He even tried a nibble of it, but he didn’t like it. I’m just happy that he gave it a try since he usually won’t even try meat.

I’m thankful that my mom gifted my husband and me with six dates. One of my intentions for 2017 is to actually go on all six dates. So far we have already gone on two dates. We went to movies to watch Fences for our first date, which was a really great movie. Then for our second date, we went on another movie date to watch Hidden Figures which was amazing.

I’m thankful that I got a new sewing machine for Christmas. My other machine was used when I got it and it wouldn’t do a zig-zag stitch. So I’m really happy to have a machine that can do more stitches.

I love it every year when Martin Luther King Jr. day is approaching because libraries start featuring books about MLK and other civil rights leaders. For me, it’s the start of my black history month teaching for homeschool. I like to read books throughout the year about African Americans to my kids, but during this time of the year my son is also excited to read them too.  If you get excited about reading to your kids about African American history then you can check out my post about kid books about the civil rights movement and another post about kid books to read during black history month.

I’m thankful for snow days or in our case a dusting of snow 🙂

I’m thankful that we made it to the Martin Luther King day parade and my kids enjoyed it.

What are you thankful for?

That is such a big turkey. Your kids are so adorable. I am grateful for the peace that I found. It keeps me calm and helps me make the right decision. Thanks for sharing.

I’ve been dying to see Hidden Figures and Fence, there’s a new movie theater in town with reclining seats and tasty food, I think it’s the perfect time check it out and catch these movies. It’s really nice your Mom gifted you 6 dates, that’s an amazing gift. Ohhhh I love your new sewing machine, it looks fancy!

I’ve been wondering about Fences! I went to see La La Land on Friday and I like to do movies alone on some Tuesdays so I’ll be doing Hidden Figures this Tuesday.
    I can’t wait!
    Great date ideas!

    1) Your daughter’s Christmas morning face!! Priceless.
    2) Your son is too cute with his turkey. The fact that he’s not a meat eater, but still tried to win the turkey and won- awesome.
    3) Date gifting!! Umm… I need to holla at my mama… but she’s in Texas. My family and I want.. NEED to go see Hidden Figures
    4) Yay for the new sewing machine!! You’re going to do wonderful things with that bad boy!!
    5) Today is a snow day here! Supposedly this year has been the most snow in 5 years. I was told it really doesn’t snow here, wrong. 😀

    XOXO

They were both pretty excited Christmas morning. I just got a good shot of my daughter’s face. 🙂 When you think about manifesting what you want, I think my son manifested that turkey. I think everyone who works at the library knew how much he wanted to win that turkey. So they were all hoping he won it. I was hoping he would win it because of how badly he wanted to win it. So there were a lot of people hoping he would win the turkey. Then when he won I thought maybe they had rigged the drawing and just let him win, but one of the ladies that works there told me about how happy she was when she saw it was my son’s name on the paper when they drew the name out of the box.
I love getting dates for gifts. I usually, tell my mom don’t buy me anything just give me a date. But it’s an extra special gift when it’s more than one date. I think your family would love Hidden Figures.
I really love me new machine SEW much…lol 🙂
It has been so hot for a February. The past two days have been in the 70’s. I hope you guys enjoyed your snow day.
