I’ve been M.I.A. when it comes to blogging lately. There have been so many things taking up my time, which is why I haven’t posted anything lately. So this currently post is about all the things I’ve been doing lately that have kept me from blogging. 🙂
Currently….Remodeling the Kitchen
I think I probably mentioned on the blog before that I wanted to remodel my kitchen. Well, I’ve finally started working on my kitchen!!! In large part to my mom and sister-in-law for motivating me to get started. My sister-in-law has also been helping every step of the way and I’m so thankful for her help. My 5-year old daughter has also jumped in and helped with the kitchen remodel, check out her painting skills below…lol.
So far we have taken down all the wallpaper off of the walls in the kitchen. If you have ever removed wallpaper from a wall you know that it can be labor intensive. Luckily, we had a steamer to use to help loosen the paper from the walls, which made it a bit easier to scrape the wallpaper off of the walls.
Once, we removed all of the wallpaper from the walls. We repaired small dings with spackling, sanded the walls, and washed them before priming and painting them.
Up next, we will paint the bead boards along the wall using Amy Howard chalk paint in Atelier (which is a shade of gray). Then we will paint the cabinets also using Amy Howard chalk paint, but using Barefoot in the Park (which is a bluish green color). After, we paint the cabinets we will tile the backsplash using white subway tile.
We still have a way to go before we are finished, but I’m excited that the kitchen remodel is underway.
I keep trying to sew myself things at the last-minute and I have not been successful with last minute makes. I had plans of sewing myself a shirt to wear on my birthday. Well, I waited until three days before my birthday to start on this project and I did not finish it in time for my birthday. I’m still pretty slow at sewing items, but I can’t resist thinking that just maybe I’ll be able to quickly make something just once. One day I’m sure I’ll be able to sew a shirt in a few hours, but I’m not there yet. So, I’m currently still working on finishing McCall’s 7602 a few weeks after my birthday has passed. 🙂
I’m also currently dreaming of starting to sew clothes for the fall. I really want to try making something using velvet this fall. I also plan on making a plaid shirtdress. If I have time I would like to try making myself a pair of pants and a skirt too.
We started back to homeschooling last month and I must say I miss the unstructured days of summer break. My son started 4th grade and my daughter started Kindergarten this school year. I had heard other homeschool moms say the length of your homeschool days will increase when you hit 4th grade and this has been so true for us. The 4th-grade curriculum that we are using takes a lot longer to finish compared to previous years curriculum. Thankfully, my son is adjusting well to his longer school days.
Currently…Cub Scouts & Girl Scouts
Both of my kids are now scouts. My son has been a Cub Scout for the past 3 years and I’ve been his den leader for the past 2 years. And now that my daughter is in Kindergarten she is a Daisy scout. They are both excited about the upcoming year of Scouts and I’m happy that they will get to have lots of fun with other kids. Since we homeschool scouting is one of the ways that they get to spend time with other kids. So I’m thankful for the friendships that scouting has allowed my son to develop and I’m looking forward to my daughter gaining friends from scouting too.
My kiddos are currently taking an art class at a local art museum. I not very artistic, but both of my kiddos are so I’m happy that they are taking an art class during the fall. For this week’s class, they created self-portraits and I was very impressed with both of their pictures.
I started watching House of Cards on Netflix a few weeks ago and I’m hooked now. I’ve been hearing people talk about how good it was for years. I’m on Season 3 so far and I’m loving this political drama.
My favorite sewing blogger, Erica Bunker of Erica Bunker| DIY Style! The Art of Cultivating a Stylish Wardrobe is featured on the cover of the latest issue (Sept/Oct 2017) of Sew Sew Def magazine. I’ve been reading this month’s issue and loving it. Sew Sew Def magazine is a relatively new digital sewing magazine created by Mimi G (another fabulous sewing blogger I admire) and I had been hesitant about purchasing the magazine because it’s only available in a digital format. But when I saw Erica Bunker on the cover I didn’t care about it only being available in a digital format. I quickly purchased it and I’m so glad that I did. Sew Sew Def magazine is a great read. I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how much I’m learning from the articles. I especially enjoyed Erica’s tips for sewing with plaids. As I mentioned above I plan on making a plaid shirtdress and I need all the tips I can get. 🙂
I turned 36!!! I had a great time celebrating my birthday. My husband and I went on a date. First, we had lunch at my favorite restaurants, Soul Fish Cafe in downtown Little Rock. I ordered fried catfish with sweet potato fries and collard greens, which was delicious.
Then, we went to the Clinton Presidential Library to view the new temporary exhibit, Art of Africa. The exhibit is full of amazing pieces of art. Most of the artworks in the exhibit were gifted to the Clintons while Bill Clinton was president. If you are in Central Arkansas you should stop by the museum and check out the exhibit before it leaves.
While we had been on our date our kids were with my mom making me a special birthday gift, a loaf of gluten-free banana bread. I was really happy to have gluten-free birthday cake and gluten-free banana bread on my birthday.
Currently…Washing lots of Dishes
The heating element in my dishwasher went out like a month ago. I got it repaired through the extended warranty that we purchased for the dishwasher. Well, a little while after the heating element was replaced I noticed that it was melting the inside of my dishwasher. So, the technician came back out and he stated I’m going to need a new dishwasher since the heating element is about to burn a hole through my machine. While I’m waiting on my claim to be processed I’m been washing lots of dishes. I’m hoping that my claim is processed soon because washing dishes is time-consuming.
