Over Ambitious Sewing Plans from December Update

You may remember I had some really big sewing plans for the November & December. I had three gifts that I wanted to sew. Along with a dress my myself, a dress for my daughter, and a skirt for myself. I don’t know what I was thinking. ..lol. But that was way too ambitious for a newbie like me. Especially, one without a lot of time for uninterrupted sewing.

So, you are probably wondering how many of these items I finished?  Sadly only one. It was the kimono jacket that I blogged about last month.

After, I finished the kimono jacket I had plans of making two robes using Vogue …pattern. I had purchased enough fabric to make two short robes. However, I was watching the winter finale of This Is Us while I was cutting out the fabric of the first robe. Big mistake, because I was all caught up in William’s AA meeting and I cut out the fabric using the pattern pieces for the long robe. This left me with only enough material to make one robe. However, I learned a valuable lesson that watching a really good tv show and cutting out fabric don’t mix. I’ve been trying to stick to listening to music while cutting fabric since then.

I got really close to finishing the first robe, which I was making for my sister-in-law who lives out of state. But with Christmas only one week away and I still needed time to ship it to her I decided that I would stop sewing on it for a few days and send it late.

How far I made it on the robe.

Why? Because I thought I could make another kimono jacket really fast and mail it to my friend who lives out of state in time for Christmas. I tried to rush while sewing it and it only caused me to make mistakes. Taking apart silky type fabrics takes a lot of time because you have to be careful not to ruin the fabric. After having to take two different sections apart due to mistakes. And needing to take apart another section because of yet another mistake. I just became frustrated and gave up on sewing anything until after Christmas. Because there were still presents to wrap, cookies to bake, and Chrismas dinner shopping to be done.

How far I made it on the kimono jacket.

It’s way after Christmas and I still haven’t tried to finished up the robe or the kimono jacket. I did finally finish sewing daughter’s Valentine’s Day dress. However, I still have to finish up the matching jacket. The collar for the jacket is giving me the BLUES. So, I’m going to have to ask my mom to help me out with the collar.

I’ll get back to the robe and the kimono jacket sometime this month, but first I want to make something for myself. 🙂

No doubt you’ll get back to such adorable and BEAUTIFUL clothing. I love what you pick out.
Also, I’m still three episodes behind with “This Is Us.” What is wrong with me??

I love the fabrics you picked out, Sonya! Everything looks great so far! I swear, you make me want to pick up sewing every time I come over here. My daughter and hubby are already better at it than me lol. But seriously, you’ve been working so hard, girl. You deserve to totally take a break and make something for yourself 🙂 Can’t wait to see updates!

And ohemmmgeee This is Us. It’s currently my favorite show. Gives me all the feels every week.

Thanks! You should totally try sewing if you have time to do it. My husband knew more about sewing when I first started sewing too.

This is Us is so good. I’m sad that William feels like he is getting close to the end. I really like his character and will miss him on the show once he dies.

I’m hooked on This Is Us, I try to avoid watching TV when doing important things, I’m easily distracted lol. I totally understand getting frustrated when rushing, I’m an avid knitter and trust me when I’m rushing I mess up everything. I think you made the right choice to stop sewing until after Christmas. Ahhhh Iove love love your daughter’s Valentines Day Dress, it’s adorable, I love the leggings, that’s my kind of dress.

Your daughter’s dress is so pretty. I wanted to crochet a few scarves for a friend before the end of December, I only finished one. Don’t beat yourself up. Great post.
