This summer is flying by. I really thought I would have more time to blog during the summer since we aren’t homeschooling. But we have had a busy summer and I haven’t had nearly the down time that I imagined I would have. So what have we been up to this summer?
My kids and I have been enjoying the library a lot this summer. We always register for Summer Reading Club so we can enjoy all of the free programs that the library puts on each summer. This summer we have been going to programs every Tuesday and Thursday and sometimes Saturday too. We have seen magic shows, learned about how pollution is affecting our local rivers, learned about tools the Native Americans made and used during their everyday life, learned some Irish dance moves (which got their picture featured in the local newspaper), and so much more. This is the last week of summer reading club and while it has been fun. I’ll be thankful for the break that we will have before we get back to homeschool lessons.
There are a lot of good shows on TV this summer. I’ve been watching Queen Sugar on OWN, which is a really good family drama. The Carmichael Show on NBC has kept my husband and I laughing this summer. Unfortunately, it was recently canceled. Thankfully, Issa Rae’s Insecure has just returned to HBO for its second season. And Baller’s staring The Rock is also back for another season on HBO. Usually, the summer isn’t a good time for TV but there are a lot of great shows that I’m enjoying this summer.
Currently Listening To
Lots of podcasts!!! 🙂 Joyce Myer’s Enjoying Everyday Life is still one of my favorite podcasts that I listen to a lot. However, I’ve discovered some new podcasts that I also like a lot. I’ve known about Myleik Teele’s podcast for a long time, but I just started listening to it this summer and I love it. I love her episodes where she interviews others the most.
I also just started listening to Angela Rye’s new podcast, On 1 with Angela Rye. Angela is a political commentator on CNN. As much as I would like to ignore the news and everything that is going on with this administration I have to stay informed.
I have two sewing projects in progress. I started on one dress, but then stopped because I wanted to make myself a dress for a wedding that I was attending. I didn’t finish the 2nd dress in time to wear to the wedding. So I now have two dresses that I need to finish sewing. Luckily, they are both more than half way completed.
However, I really want to make another shirt like the one below, before I finish either of the dresses I already have started. This has been my favorite shirt to wear this summer. So I want another one like it.
I’ve read two really good books this month. The first one was The Perfect Find by Tia Williams. This is a really funny love story that I’m hoping will become a romantic comedy on the big screen. It would make a really good movie.
The second book was Kevin Hart’s I Can’t Make This Up Life Lessons. This was also a really funny book. I laughed out loud so many times while reading this book. I would recommend this book to anyone who needs a good laugh.
I haven’t decided what I will read next. I won a couple of books for my Summer Reading Club prizes and I think I want to read one of those next. I just haven’t decided which one, but I’m leaning towards The Devil Wear’s Prada.
Currently Excited About
Next week I’m going to attend my very first blogging conference. I’m really excited to be attending Megaphone Summit in Fayetteville, Arkansas. This conference is hosted by the Women Bloggers a company that has a lot of great opportunities for bloggers to work with brands. If you are a blogger that enjoys working with brands you should join the Women Bloggers Talent Book to learn about upcoming opportunities.
