Mother-Daughter Breakfast Date at McDonald’s

**Disclosure: As a brand ambassador for Central Arkansas McDonald’s I am being compensated for this post. However, all opinions are 100% mine.**

I recently had a chance to do something I haven’t done in years. What was it? I had a mother-daughter breakfast date with my mom. 🙂 You see when I was growing up we would go out for breakfast almost every Saturday.

My mom worked as a hairstylist and she and my aunt owned their own beauty shop. This allowed my mom to bring my brothers and me to work with her on the weekends and during the summer while we were small. Once we got into junior high school, my brothers quickly opted out of going to work with my mom. However, I continued going to work with my mom on Saturdays and during the summer, which is how we started having regular mother-daughter breakfast dates most Saturday mornings.

One of the places we would often go to on our Saturday morning breakfast dates was McDonald’s. When I was younger my favorite order was either an Egg & Cheese Biscuit or an Egg McMuffin with an order of Hash Browns and a small Orange Juice.

If I was feeling extra hungry I would order a Big Breakfast with Hotcakes, which truly is a big breakfast since it comes with scrambled eggs, hash browns, a biscuit, sausage, and pancakes.

My mom would usually order a breakfast sandwich with Hash Browns, but she absolutely had to have a cup of coffee even though she had already had coffee before we left home.

Now, a lot has changed over the past 20 years since my mom and I regularly had our Saturday mother-daughter breakfast dates, especially when it comes to our eating habits. I mostly eat a gluten-free diet and my mom mostly eats a vegetarian diet. But some things have stayed the same, like my mom absolutely needing a cup of coffee with her breakfast. 🙂

For our recent mother-daughter breakfast date. I ordered the Fruit & Maple Oatmeal, with an order of Hash Browns, and a small Orange Juice. This was my first time trying the Fruit & Maple Oatmeal and I have to say it was really good. Note: The Fruit & Maple Oatmeal is not certified gluten-free.

My mom ordered an Egg McMuffin without the Canadian bacon and a small McCafe Coffee. Although, I know she had already had a cup of coffee before leaving home.

Breakfast at McDonald's

It felt really good having a mother-daughter breakfast date with my mom just like we used to do all those years ago. My mom and I will definitely have to make time to have these breakfast dates more often. We can enjoy McDonald’s breakfast any time we want because McDonald’s has an All Day Breakfast menuHave you ever had breakfast for dinner?

For our next date, I’ll make sure my daughter joins us for some mother-daughter breakfast fun. 🙂

Such a nice story with your mom. I can definitely see the resemblance. I really like the oatmeal from McDonald’s as well…it’s my favorite breakfast item.

That is so sweeet! Nothing beats a nice meal with the parents. McDonald’s has amazing breakfast food. I go there all the time with my family for a little bonding time over a McGriddle. Yum!

How sweet that you had a morning out together. I don’t think I knew that McDonald’s had oatmeal. This would be a fun thing to do sometime 🙂

The oatmeal at McDonald’s is really good. You should give it a try one day. 🙂

I love (and miss) McDonalds breakfast. I used to love to get the breakfast burrito. I can’t get it anymore because I have a gluten allergy, but I do take my daughter there occasionally on the way to school so she can get one!

    • Reply Sonya November 4, 2017 at 2:51 pm

I don’t have a gluten allergy but I understand how you feel. I eat gluten-free most of the time and I would have really loved to have eaten an egg and cheese biscuit, but luckily the oatmeal was really good. 🙂

I always enjoyed sneaking out with my mom for breakfast or lunch. When I worked close to her over 20 years ago, I used to call her frequently for lunch. I miss those days. She has been gone for 7 years. 🙁 Enjoy these mama daughter dates as often as you can. 🙂

Sorry to hear about the loss of your mom.
I always enjoy the moments that I have with my mom. My father died when I was young, so I know how important it is not to take our parents for granted.

How sweet! I wish that my mom and I did things like this more often, but she is always so busy. I love to stop at McDonald’s every now and then to get their McGriddles without the sausage (just the egg) and they’re so tasty!

Hopefully, you and your mom will find some time to have a mother-daughter date soon. I’m sure you both would enjoy it. I also prefer my breakfast sandwiches with just the eggs. 🙂

We had a lot of fun and you are right it was special since it was just my mom and me. It’s hard to get into the conversation when my kids are around my mom. They even snatch the phone right out my hand when I’m trying to talk to her on the phone. They love their Nana. 🙂

  • Reply Tamara October 24, 2017 at 8:10 pm

This made me smile! When I was a kid, I’d read the same book as my mom and then we’d go out to breakfast as part of our own “book club.” I think there were many Egg McMuffins eaten during those book clubs!
Your mom looks like you! Or vice versa, rather.
